The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995596 is a jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar materials. It measures 0.0625 inches (1/16 inch) in diameter with an overall length of 1.875 inches and a flute length of 0.875 inches. The bit is ground to a 118-degree point angle with a standard point and features a web-thinned, tapered web configuration for improved chip clearance and reduced entry force. It is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish. The left-hand cutting direction makes this bit suited for removal work and specialized drilling applications. Machinists, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians are the typical end users.
This bit is built for production and repair drilling where a small-diameter, left-hand-cut tool is required. The Series L10 designation places it in the general-purpose jobber category. Primary workpiece materials include steel and cast iron, with material codes P, M, K, N, and S covering a broad range of ferrous and non-ferrous applications. The straight shank fits standard drill chucks without any adapter. The 14xD flute-to-diameter ratio delivers adequate chip evacuation at this diameter range.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.0625-inch straight shank. Suitable for drilling steel, cast iron, and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals within the 0.0500 to 0.1000 inch diameter range of the Series L10 line.
Installation is performed by machinists or qualified maintenance technicians using a standard drill press, milling machine, or hand drill with an appropriate chuck. Secure the straight shank fully in the chuck before operation and verify zero runout where precision is required. Left-hand cutting direction requires the spindle to run in reverse; confirm spindle rotation direction before engaging the workpiece. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for steel applications to extend tool life, even though coolant-through is not supported by this bit.
