The PRECISION TWIST DRILL 5995465 is a jobber-length drill bit ground to an 11/32 inch (0.3438 inch) diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit is designed for left-hand cutting — a configuration commonly used to back out damaged or seized fasteners during repair work. The overall length is 4.75 inches with a 3.4375-inch flute length, making it a standard jobber-length tool suited for general-purpose drilling in a wide range of metalworking and maintenance applications. The straight shank is the same diameter as the cutting end at 0.3438 inches, compatible with standard drill chucks.
This bit is intended for drilling into steel and cast iron in light manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments. The left-hand cutting direction makes it particularly useful in reverse-chuck drilling operations where fastener extraction is the goal. HVAC, plumbing, and general mechanical technicians regularly reach for left-hand bits when removing broken bolts, damaged screws, or stripped studs from equipment housings and flanges. The regular spiral flute and 2-flute configuration clear chips efficiently in ferrous materials at standard spindle speeds.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard drill chuck accepting a 0.3438-inch straight shank. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron per the manufacturer specification.
This bit is installed by a machinist or technician into a keyed or keyless drill chuck on a handheld drill, drill press, or lathe tailstock. When using in reverse for fastener extraction, ensure the spindle is set to reverse rotation before engaging the bit. Secure the workpiece before drilling to prevent movement. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace if chipping or dulling is observed, as a damaged bit can wander off-center and damage the workpiece.
