The PRECISION BRAND 17470 is a brass shim stock sheet used to fill gaps, align components, and set precise clearances in mechanical assemblies. At 0.015 inches thick, 25 inches long, and 6 inches wide, each sheet provides enough material to cut custom shims for a range of applications. Brass is chosen for its corrosion resistance, machinability, and non-sparking characteristics, making it well suited for environments where steel shim stock would be a liability. Each package includes 2 sheets. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the primary users of this product.
Brass shim stock of this thickness is commonly used in industrial maintenance, machinery alignment, bearing and bushing fits, and precision assembly work. The 0.015-inch gauge falls in the mid-range of thin shim applications, appropriate for moderate tolerance adjustments in pumps, motors, compressors, conveyor systems, and general mechanical equipment. The sheet format allows field-cutting with snips or a shear to produce shims of any shape or size needed for the job.
Designed as a general-purpose brass shim stock sheet suitable for machinery alignment, bearing fits, and precision gap-filling applications across industrial and mechanical maintenance settings.
Shim stock installation is typically performed by machinists, millwrights, or maintenance technicians during equipment alignment or assembly. De-energize and lock out all equipment before inserting or adjusting shims in any rotating or pressurized assembly. Use appropriate cutting tools — aviation snips or a bench shear — to cut brass shim stock cleanly without deforming the edges. Deburr cut edges before installation to avoid inaccurate seating or damage to mating surfaces.
