The PRECISION BRAND 16540 is a full-hard steel shim stock roll designed for precision shimming applications in industrial and mechanical settings. The roll measures 12 inches wide by 120 inches long and is 0.015 inches thick, with a thickness tolerance of plus or minus 0.00075 inches for exacting fitment requirements. Manufactured from AISI-1008 and AISI-1010 grade steel to ASTM-A109 standards, it carries a Rockwell hardness of B84-90. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians cut custom shim shapes directly from the roll, reducing the need to stock precut shims in multiple sizes.
This shim stock roll is suited for alignment work, new machine assembly, tool and die setup, mounting applications, and general machine repair and maintenance. The rolled format conserves storage space and allows the installer to unroll only the length needed before cutting the required shape. It is commonly used in manufacturing plants, machine shops, and maintenance environments where precise gap control and load distribution between mating surfaces are required.
Designed as a general-purpose steel shim stock roll suitable for alignment, mounting, tool and die setup, and machine repair and maintenance applications across a wide range of industrial equipment.
Shim stock is typically installed by millwrights, machinists, or maintenance technicians. Power down and de-energize all equipment before shimming rotating or electrical assemblies. Use aviation snips, a shim cutter, or a scribe and straightedge to cut the required shape cleanly without distorting the edge. Verify final stack height with a calibrated micrometer before returning the machine to service.
