The PRECISION BRAND 15400 is a zinc-finished, low-carbon steel key stock used to secure rotating components such as gears, pulleys, and sprockets to shafts in mechanical drive systems. Each piece measures 0.5 inches wide by 0.3125 inches high by 12 inches long and meets ASTM A108 material specification. Hardness is rated at Rockwell B80-90, giving it the shear resistance needed for moderate-load power transmission applications. This package contains six pieces. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance mechanics install key stock as part of routine shaft and coupling work across industrial and commercial equipment.
Key stock of this size fits a wide range of light-to-medium duty power transmission applications including conveyor drives, pump shafts, fan assemblies, and general industrial machinery. The 12-inch length allows the stock to be cut to the exact keyseat length required for a given application. The zinc finish provides a measure of corrosion resistance during storage and in mildly humid service environments. This stock is suited for both new installations and replacement of worn or damaged keys in existing assemblies.
Designed as a standard-dimension replacement or new-installation key stock for shaft keyseats requiring a 1/2-inch wide by 5/16-inch high profile, consistent with common ANSI power transmission shaft and hub keyway standards.
Key stock installation is typically performed by machinists or millwrights during drive assembly or scheduled maintenance. De-energize and lock out all equipment before removing or installing key stock, following OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Cut the stock to length using a bandsaw, hacksaw, or milling machine and deburr all edges before fitting to avoid keyseat damage. Do not force an oversized key into a keyseat; verify fit before final assembly to prevent shaft or hub damage.
