The POTTER ELECTRIC SIGNAL CO. US PAD300-DUCT is a duct-mount smoke detector designed to monitor air handling systems for the presence of smoke. It is installed directly into HVAC ductwork and samples the air stream passing through the duct, triggering an alarm when smoke is detected. This type of device is a critical component in life-safety and building automation systems, used to shut down air handlers and prevent smoke from spreading through a structure. Installation is typically performed by licensed fire alarm or HVAC technicians working under applicable local codes.
The PAD300-DUCT is suited for commercial and light commercial applications where air duct smoke detection is required by fire codes or building standards. It is mounted through the wall of an HVAC duct and monitors the air flowing through supply or return air systems. This detector is sold as a single unit and is appropriate for new construction projects and retrofit installations where duct smoke detection capability is being added or upgraded.
Designed as an OEM-style duct smoke detector for commercial HVAC air handling systems requiring duct-mounted smoke detection per applicable fire and life-safety codes.
Duct smoke detectors must be installed by a qualified fire alarm or HVAC technician in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, and applicable local codes. Power down the air handling unit and de-energize the fire alarm control panel circuit before beginning installation. The detector sampling tube must be properly sized and positioned within the duct to ensure accurate air stream sampling. Refer to the manufacturer data sheet and authority having jurisdiction requirements before commissioning.
