The POTTER ELECTRIC SIGNAL CO. US VSR-S is a vane type waterflow switch with a double-pole double-throw (DPDT) output configuration. It is designed to detect water movement in wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems and signal a control panel or alarm device when flow is present. The VSR-S mounts directly to the sprinkler supply piping, where its internal paddle senses flow and actuates the switch contacts. Licensed fire alarm and sprinkler contractors typically supply and install this device as part of a complete detection and notification system.
The VSR-S is suited for residential and light commercial wet-pipe sprinkler systems. It is installed on the main or branch supply piping at a point where flow indication is required. The DPDT contact configuration allows simultaneous triggering of multiple circuits, such as a local alarm and a remote monitoring panel, from a single device. This makes it a practical choice for systems that require both local annunciation and central station reporting.
Designed as an OEM-style waterflow switch for use with wet-pipe fire sprinkler supply piping where a vane-type flow detection device with DPDT switching is required.
Installation of waterflow switches on fire sprinkler systems must be performed by a licensed fire protection or sprinkler contractor in accordance with NFPA 13 and applicable local codes. The water supply to the affected piping section must be shut off and the system depressurized before mounting the device. Verify that pipe size and fitting type are compatible with the VSR-S before cutting into the line. After installation, coordinate with the fire alarm system technician to confirm proper signal transmission to the panel before restoring water pressure.
