The Potter Electric Signal Co. US VSR-F-EX-3 is a vane-type waterflow switch designed for fire sprinkler and water-based suppression piping systems. It uses a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) switching arrangement to signal a fire alarm control panel or monitoring system when water movement is detected in the pipe. Sized for 3-inch pipe, this switch is a standard component in commercial and light industrial sprinkler installations where flow detection and alarm initiation are required. Installation is handled by licensed fire sprinkler contractors or qualified fire protection technicians.
The VSR-F-EX-3 is suited for use on wet-pipe sprinkler systems installed in commercial buildings, warehouses, schools, and similar occupancies. The 3-inch pipe size fits a common main or branch main configuration in mid- to large-capacity systems. Where local codes require listed waterflow detection devices, this switch provides the electrical output needed to integrate with building fire alarm systems. Consult local Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements before installation.
Designed as an OEM-style waterflow detection switch for wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems using 3-inch pipe, compatible with fire alarm control panels accepting SPDT dry-contact waterflow initiating inputs.
Installation should be performed by a licensed fire sprinkler contractor in accordance with NFPA 13 and local fire code requirements. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the piping before cutting into the line to mount the switch. Electrical connections to the fire alarm control panel must comply with NFPA 72 and local AHJ requirements. Do not install on dry-pipe, preaction, or deluge systems without confirming the switch is rated for those applications.
