The Potter Electric Signal Co. US VSR-3 is a vane-type water flow switch designed for wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems. It detects water movement in the main riser or branch piping and sends a signal to the fire alarm control panel when flow is initiated. The VSR-3 is engineered for 3-inch pipe and is a standard component in commercial and residential fire protection installations. Licensed fire alarm and sprinkler contractors install this device as part of a listed fire alarm system. Its paddle mechanism responds to flow and actuates a set of contacts to trigger alarms or suppression responses.
The VSR-3 fits into 3-inch schedule pipe used in wet-pipe automatic sprinkler systems. It is widely installed in commercial buildings, light industrial facilities, and multi-family residential structures wherever a waterflow initiating device is required on a 3-inch riser or distribution main. The switch integrates with fire alarm control panels to provide early notification of sprinkler activation or unwanted water flow events.
Designed as an OEM-style waterflow initiating device for 3-inch wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems. Consult the manufacturer datasheet and your local AHJ for approved system configurations.
Installation must be performed by a licensed fire sprinkler or fire alarm contractor in accordance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 72 requirements. The sprinkler system must be taken out of service and the water supply fully shut off and drained before cutting into the pipe to install the saddle fitting. After installation, the system must be restored, retested for flow, and the initiating circuit verified at the fire alarm control panel before returning the system to service. Coordinate all work with the authority having jurisdiction prior to beginning.
