The Potter Electric Signal CR-165-C is a rate-of-rise heat detector with a normally closed contact configuration, designed for use in fire alarm and detection systems. This unit responds to rapid temperature increases, triggering an alarm signal when the ambient temperature rises faster than a set threshold. It is installed by licensed fire alarm technicians and electricians as part of a broader life-safety detection network, typically in areas where smoke detectors are not suitable, such as dusty, steamy, or high-heat environments.
The CR-165-C is suited for residential and light commercial fire alarm applications where heat detection is the preferred sensing method. It is commonly installed in kitchens, garages, boiler rooms, and utility spaces where airborne particulates could cause nuisance alarms with standard smoke detectors. The normally closed contact output integrates directly with conventional and addressable fire alarm control panels.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation heat detector for conventional and addressable fire alarm systems requiring a normally closed rate-of-rise sensing device.
Installation must be performed by a licensed fire alarm technician or electrician in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable local codes. De-energize the fire alarm control panel circuit before wiring or replacing the detector. Follow the manufacturer data sheet for mounting orientation, spacing requirements, and zone wiring configuration. Do not install in locations that exceed the detector's rated temperature ceiling, as this may cause permanent damage or false actuation.
