The POTTER ELECTRIC SIGNAL CO. US WFSR-F is a waterflow alarm switch with a built-in retard feature, designed for use in wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems. It detects sustained water movement in the sprinkler piping and sends an alarm signal to a fire alarm control panel or monitoring system. The retard function filters out short-duration pressure surges or water hammer events that would otherwise cause nuisance trips, helping reduce false alarms. Licensed fire alarm and sprinkler system technicians are the primary installers of this device.
The WFSR-F is suited for commercial and residential fire protection applications where a reliable waterflow detection device is required on a wet-pipe sprinkler system riser. The retard mechanism makes it appropriate for systems subject to minor pressure fluctuations, such as those fed by municipal water supplies with variable pressure. It is sold individually as a single unit and categorized under waterflow equipment for fire suppression systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation waterflow alarm switch for wet-pipe fire sprinkler systems requiring a retard-type paddle or vane waterflow detector.
Installation of waterflow alarm switches on fire sprinkler systems must be performed by a licensed fire protection or fire alarm technician in accordance with NFPA 13 and NFPA 72 requirements. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before opening the sprinkler piping for installation. Verify that electrical connections to the alarm panel are made with system power de-energized. Consult local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) for inspection and acceptance testing requirements after installation.
