The POTTER ELECTRIC SIGNAL CO. US PS120-1 is a pressure supervisory switch configured with a single-pole double-throw (SPDT) contact arrangement. It is designed to monitor water pressure in fire protection piping systems and signal a change-of-state condition when pressure moves outside a set threshold. This type of device is a standard component in wet-pipe and dry-pipe sprinkler systems, where continuous pressure supervision is required by NFPA and local fire codes. Installation and commissioning are typically performed by licensed fire protection contractors or alarm technicians.
The PS120-1 is applied in commercial and industrial fire suppression systems where supervisory signaling is required. It mounts on the fire protection piping and connects to a fire alarm control panel to report low-pressure or high-pressure conditions. Typical installation scenarios include sprinkler system riser assemblies, dry-pipe valve stations, and pre-action system supervisory circuits. The SPDT contact output provides flexibility for both normally open and normally closed supervisory circuit wiring configurations.

Installation must be performed by a qualified fire protection contractor or licensed fire alarm technician in accordance with NFPA 72, NFPA 13, and applicable local codes. Shut off system water supply and depressurize the affected piping section before installing or removing the switch. Verify that the fire alarm control panel supervisory circuit is placed in test mode prior to wiring to avoid unintended supervisory alarms. After installation, restore pressure and confirm proper supervisory signal operation at the control panel before returning the system to service.
