The POTTER ELECTRIC SIGNAL CO. US PAD300-HD is a heat detector designed for thermal detection applications in fire alarm and life safety systems. Heat detectors of this type respond to elevated ambient temperatures, triggering an alarm signal when conditions indicate a potential fire. The PAD300-HD is built for installations where smoke detectors are not suitable, such as areas with dust, steam, or fumes that could cause nuisance alarms. Licensed fire alarm technicians and low-voltage electrical contractors are the primary installers of this device. It ships as a single unit and is suited for both new construction and retrofit fire alarm projects.
Heat detectors in the PAD300-HD class are used in residential and light commercial fire alarm systems, typically in areas such as kitchens, garages, laundry rooms, attics, and mechanical spaces. These environments often experience airborne particulates or humidity levels that make smoke detection unreliable. The PAD300-HD integrates into conventional or addressable fire alarm control panels as a zone detection device. It is installed by fire alarm system contractors familiar with NFPA 72 installation requirements and local authority having jurisdiction guidelines.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation heat detector for conventional thermal detection zones in residential and commercial fire alarm systems.
Installation must be performed by a licensed fire alarm technician in accordance with NFPA 72 and applicable local codes. Disconnect and lock out the fire alarm control panel circuit before wiring or replacing the detector. Mount the unit at the ceiling or on the wall at the height specified by the system designer and code authority. Do not paint or coat the detector housing, as this can interfere with thermal response.
