The PLUMB SHOP DIV BRASSCRAFT 176-316 is a rubber reducing washer sold in a 2-pack, designed to create a watertight seal when connecting a 1-1/4 inch OD tube to a 1-1/2 inch OD drain tube. The washer compresses between the slip joint nut and the fitting shoulder, bridging the size difference between the two drain line diameters. Made from rubber, it provides the flexibility needed to seat properly and resist leakage under normal drain-line pressure. Plumbers and pipefitters keep these on hand for P-trap and drain assembly work where reducing connections are required.
This reducing washer is used in residential and light commercial plumbing drain assemblies, typically under sinks where a 1-1/4 inch tailpiece or trap arm must connect to a 1-1/2 inch trap or drain fitting. Common applications include kitchen and bathroom sink drain repairs, P-trap replacements, and rough-in corrections where mismatched drain sizes must be joined without replacing the full drain assembly.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement reducing washer for use with standard residential slip joint drain assemblies where a 1-1/4 inch OD tube connects to a 1-1/2 inch OD tube.
Licensed plumbers and experienced DIYers install this washer as part of P-trap and drain line assembly under sinks. Turn off the water supply and ensure the drain is not under pressure before disassembling slip joint connections. Hand-tighten slip joint nuts to seat the washer, then snug with channel-lock pliers — do not overtighten, as excessive force can deform rubber washers and cause leaks. Follow local plumbing codes, which generally reference IPC or UPC standards for drain assembly.
