OM5 glass is optimized for wideband multimode transmission, supporting short-wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) and high-speed data applications up to 100G and beyond over laser-optimized multimode links. This distribution-style cable construction houses individual tight-buffered fibers in a common outer jacket, keeping the overall diameter manageable while providing direct access to each fiber for field termination. It is sold as a single unit and is sized for runs within a building where a plenum or riser fire rating is appropriate for the pathway.
This cable is suited for intra-building backbone and horizontal runs in commercial and enterprise environments. Typical installations include data center interconnects, server room patch infrastructure, campus riser runs, and structured cabling backbone segments where high-bandwidth multimode performance is required. A licensed low-voltage or communications cabling technician typically handles installation in these applications.
