The OSRAM MP70/U/MED is a 70-watt quartz metal halide pulse-start HID lamp designed for commercial and industrial lighting applications. It produces 5,200 initial lumens at 3000 Kelvin with a color rendering index (CRI) of 75, making it well suited for environments where accurate color perception and strong output matter. The E26 medium base fits standard HID sockets, and the universal operating position allows installation in any fixture orientation. The METALARC PRO-TECH construction includes a glass shroud that provides lamp containment and UV reduction, permitting use in both open and enclosed fixtures.
This lamp is specified for ambient lighting in industrial and retail facilities, flood lighting, lobbies, atriums, malls, parking lots, and security lighting installations. The pulse-start design supports compatibility with M98/O ballasts and delivers rated lamp life of 10,000 hours in the vertical burn position and 15,000 hours in the horizontal position. The clear E17 bulb shape and compact overall length of 5.43 inches make it a practical fit for a wide range of commercial HID luminaires. Electrical contractors and lighting maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
Designed for use with ANSI M98/O ballasts. Suitable for open fixtures with exclusionary sockets and for enclosed fixtures equipped with a lens. Applications include ambient lighting in industrial and retail spaces, flood lighting, lobbies, atriums, malls, parking lots, and security lighting.
HID lamp replacement should be performed by a qualified electrician with the circuit de-energized and the fixture allowed to cool completely before handling. Pulse-start metal halide lamps require a compatible M98/O ballast and must not be installed on standard probe-start circuits. When installing in open fixtures, use exclusionary sockets as required to comply with lamp and fixture manufacturer guidelines. Allow adequate restrike time after power cycling, as HID lamps require a warm-up period before reaching full output.
