The OSRAM LU400/ECO is a 400-watt, lead-free high pressure sodium (HPS) HID lamp designed as a direct replacement for standard 400W HPS lamps that do not pass the federal TCLP (Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure) test. Built to the T14.5 shape designation with an E39 mogul base, this lamp delivers an initial output of 50,000 lumens and a mean output of 40,300 lumens across a rated life of 30,000 hours. Operating at a color temperature of 2100 K with a color rendering index (CRI) of 22, it is suited for high-intensity discharge fixture applications where long service intervals and reduced hazardous waste disposal are priorities for the installing electrician or lighting contractor.
This lamp is rated for universal operating position and carries an ANSI ballast code of S51/O, making it compatible with standard 400W HPS magnetic ballast systems. Intended applications include architectural lighting, canopy fixtures, floodlights, high bay and low bay industrial installations, roadway cobra head fixtures, and wall mount luminaires in both commercial and industrial environments. The overall lamp length is 9.75 inches with an outer diameter of 2.244 inches and an arc length of 3.19 inches. Warm-up time runs 3 to 4 minutes from a cold start, and hot restrike time is 1 minute.
Compatible with 400W high pressure sodium magnetic ballast systems rated to ANSI code S51/O. Suitable for architectural, canopy, floodlight, high bay, low bay, industrial, roadway cobra head, and wall mount fixture types. Sold individually; standard case pack is 20 lamps per case.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local codes. De-energize and lock out the fixture circuit before relamping and allow the existing lamp to cool fully before handling, as HPS lamps retain heat for an extended period after shutdown. Do not operate on ballasts with an ANSI designation other than S51/O, as mismatched ballasts will reduce lamp life or prevent ignition. Handle the outer envelope with clean gloves to avoid surface contamination that can cause hot spots and premature failure.
