The OSG VGM7-0009 is a 7-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-efficiency milling in demanding machining environments. With a 1/4 inch cutting diameter and a 3/4 inch length of cut, this single-end tool is built for finishing and semi-finishing passes where chip evacuation and surface finish quality are priorities. The EXO coating provides thermal resistance and reduces friction at the cutting edge. The 36-degree helix angle promotes smooth cutting action and effective chip flow. Variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic vibration during high-speed operation, extending tool life and improving surface quality. Machinists and CNC operators running ferrous and non-ferrous materials will find this geometry well-suited to high-speed finishing strategies.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines for finishing cuts, contour milling, and slot milling applications. The 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders in common spindle sizes. With a 2.5 inch overall length and regular length designation, it fits compact workholding setups with limited Z-axis clearance. The non-centercutting design means it is not intended for direct plunge entry. Right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting orientation follow standard convention for most CNC programming environments.
Designed for use in standard 1/4 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. Part of the OSG VGM7 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or toolholder and torque the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning the first cut, as excessive runout on a 7-flute tool accelerates uneven wear.
