The OSG VGM6-0105 is a solid carbide square end mill engineered for demanding milling operations in ferrous and hardened materials. It features a 5/8 inch diameter cutting profile with six flutes and a 37-degree helix angle, delivering smooth chip evacuation and stable tool engagement at higher feed rates. The EXO coating provides enhanced surface hardness and heat resistance, extending tool life in abrasive cutting conditions. The micrograin carbide substrate supports rigidity at depth while resisting edge chipping. This end mill is installed and run by machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production facilities, and precision manufacturing environments.
The VGM6-0105 is suited for peripheral and slot milling in steel, stainless steel, and similar ferrous alloys where tool deflection and heat buildup are primary concerns. With a 1-9/16 inch length of cut and 3-1/2 inch overall length, it fits standard toolholders used in vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The straight cylindrical shank accepts ER collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, and Weldon-style side-lock holders sized for 5/8 inch tooling. Variable index flute spacing reduces harmonic chatter during heavy cuts, improving surface finish consistency.
Designed for use in 5/8 inch toolholders on CNC vertical machining centers and manual knee mills; part of the OSG VGM6 series for milling ferrous alloys and hardened steels.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an E-stop or locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully in the collet or holder and torque the retention nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut; excessive runout accelerates edge wear and can cause premature tool failure.
