The OSG VGM6-0097 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance finishing operations in demanding materials. Carrying a 5/8 inch diameter, a 1/8 inch (0.125 inch) corner radius, and six flutes arranged in a right-hand spiral with close pitch, this tool is built to hold tight tolerances and produce consistent surface finishes. The EXO proprietary coating adds wear resistance and thermal stability, extending tool life in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. Variable index geometry reduces harmonic chatter during deep lateral passes. A licensed machinist or tooling specialist installs and qualifies this end mill as part of a CNC or manual milling program.
The VGM6-0097 targets finishing applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its short-length-of-cut geometry and straight-cylindrical shank make it well suited for close-tolerance profiling, contouring, and corner-blending in production machining environments. The 3 inch overall length keeps the tool rigid in standard toolholder setups, minimizing deflection during high-feed finishing passes. It is a single-end, non-centercutting tool intended for peripheral and side milling rather than plunge operations.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch shank diameter. Suitable for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines equipped to hold cylindrical shanks to the h6 shank diameter tolerance class.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with milling cutter setup. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Ensure the toolholder bore is clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the shank, and confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts. This tool is not centercutting and should not be used for direct plunge entry.
