The OSG VGM5-1063 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Built on the VGM5-LN series platform, it features a 3/8 inch diameter cutting face with a 0.03 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentrations and extends tool life at the cutting edge. With 5 flutes, a variable index geometry, and a high-helix spiral flute configuration, this tool balances chip evacuation with surface finish quality. The EXO coating provides elevated heat and wear resistance, making it suitable for both roughing and finishing passes in a single setup. Machinists and CNC operators running ferrous and exotic alloys will find this tool well-suited to high-speed, high-feed strategies.
The VGM5-1063 is engineered for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its extended reach design and short flute length make it effective in pocketing, slotting, and profiling operations where rigidity and chip control are critical. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly into standard toolholders. This tool suits production environments running 3-axis and multi-axis CNC machining centers where consistent tool life across difficult workpiece materials is a priority.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical bore toolholders. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as defined by ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. Part of the OSG VGM5-LN series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the toolholder bore and collet are clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as runout beyond the stated tolerance will accelerate flute wear. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and OSG published cutting data guidelines for speeds, feeds, and depth of cut specific to this series.
