The OSG VGM5-0264 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials. Built on OSG's VGM5 series platform, it carries a 1-inch cutting diameter, a 3-inch length of cut, and a 0.0300-inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge. The tool features 5 flutes with a high-helix spiral geometry and a variable index design that dampens vibration during aggressive cuts. An EXO proprietary coating improves heat and wear resistance, extending tool life in abrasive and hard workpiece materials. This end mill is single-end and centercutting, allowing plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling operations.
The VGM5-0264 is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials in both roughing and finishing operations. The 5-flute configuration supports higher feed rates compared to 4-flute tools in the same diameter class, making it effective in production CNC machining environments. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance mounts directly into standard toolholders used in vertical and horizontal machining centers. It is commonly used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on close-tolerance components where corner geometry must be maintained.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore toolholders on CNC machining centers. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Shank diameter tolerance is h6 for precise fit in collet and hydraulic toolholders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the minimum engagement depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer before torquing the retention mechanism. Verify runout with a dial indicator after mounting, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear on a 5-flute tool operating at elevated feed rates.
