The OSG VGM5-0232 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It features a 3/4-inch mill diameter with a 1/4-inch (0.2500-inch) corner radius, 5 flutes, and a 2-1/4-inch length of cut. The tool carries OSG EXO coating for extended wear resistance and heat reduction during aggressive material removal. The VGM5-0232 is center-cutting, right-hand flute, right-hand cutting, and built for both roughing and finishing operations. It mounts via a straight-cylindrical shank into a standard toolholder.
The VGM5-0232 belongs to OSG's VGM5 series, engineered for machining centers and CNC milling applications where tool life and surface finish consistency matter across difficult workpiece materials. The variable index geometry reduces chatter and harmonics during cutting, making it well-suited for full-width slotting, profiling, and contour milling in ferrous and hard-material workpieces. This end mill is intended for use in production and job-shop environments where the workpiece materials demand a coated solid carbide tool with tight diameter tolerances.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 3/4-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Primary workpiece material compatibility includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys and titanium, and hard materials. Shank diameter tolerance is h6; mill diameter tolerance is 0.0000 to -0.0011 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Ensure the machine spindle and toolholder are clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Confirm runout is within acceptable limits before initiating a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines and OSG feed and speed recommendations for the specific workpiece material and coating type.
