The OSG VGM5-0167 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal removal and finishing operations in a single tool. Built in the VGM5 series, it features a 5/8 inch diameter, five flutes, and a 0.03 inch corner radius that reduces edge chipping and extends tool life in aggressive cuts. The EXO coating provides heat and wear resistance suited to high-speed machining of hard and abrasive materials. At 3 inches overall length with a 1.25 inch length of cut, this is a short-length, straight-shank tool intended for rigid setups where deflection must be minimized. It is single-end, centercutting, and carries right-hand flute direction and cutting action. Machinists and CNC operators running production or job-shop work install this tool in standard toolholders.
The VGM5-0167 is engineered for steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its variable index geometry reduces harmonic chatter during both roughing and finishing passes, making it effective across a broad range of cutting conditions without a tool change. The short flute length and 5/8 inch shank diameter match well to moderate-depth slotting, profiling, and contouring operations where tool overhang is kept to a minimum. It is intended for use in a compatible toolholder on CNC machining centers and manual mills running coolant externally, as this tool does not include through-coolant capability.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch shank diameter. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC operator with toolholding equipment rated for the shank diameter and the intended cutting speeds. Ensure the toolholder bore is clean and free of debris before seating the shank to avoid runout. Confirm spindle direction and feed-rate parameters match the right-hand cutting geometry before initiating a cut. Do not exceed the tool manufacturer's recommended depth of cut for the selected workpiece material.
