The OSG VGM5-0145 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance metal removal and finishing in demanding machining applications. It features a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 0.09 inch corner radius, and five flutes with a right-hand spiral and right-hand cut direction. The tool carries an EXO proprietary coating for extended wear resistance and thermal protection. Variable index geometry reduces chatter and vibration during aggressive cuts. At 3 inches overall length with a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, it fits standard toolholders used on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
This end mill is built for roughing and finishing operations on a wide range of difficult materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It is a single-end, center-cutting tool, making it capable of plunge entry as well as peripheral and slot milling. The straight cylindrical shank with h6 tolerance fits precision collet chucks and end mill holders. It is well suited for job shops and production environments where tool life and surface finish consistency across tough workpiece materials are priorities.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank with h6 diameter tolerance. Intended for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as designated by material codes P, M, K, S, and H. Part of the OSG VGM5 series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is seated to the correct gauge length in the toolholder before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on carbide tooling. Confirm feeds, speeds, and depth of cut parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material before initiating the cut.
