The OSG VGM5-0140 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Built on OSG's VGM5 platform, it features a 0.5 inch mill diameter, 5 flutes, and a 0.0100 inch corner radius that reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge and extends tool life in abrasive materials. The EXO coating provides enhanced wear resistance and heat dissipation, making this end mill well suited for aggressive cutting cycles in both roughing and finishing operations. A variable index geometry helps suppress chatter and vibration during high-load passes. The VGM5-0140 is engineered for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. With a 1.25 inch length of cut and a 3 inch overall length, it suits standard vertical machining center setups and is compatible with straight-bore toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch shank. The single-end, centercutting configuration allows plunge entry and full helical interpolation, which is common in die and mold work as well as aerospace component machining where complex pocket geometry is the norm.

Installation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in an e-stop or locked-out state before inserting or removing the tool from the toolholder. Verify shank seating depth and runout with a dial indicator before beginning any cut cycle. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specifications for set screws or collet nuts — do not overtighten, as carbide shanks are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamping force.
