The OSG VGM5-0122 is a 5-flute, solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for demanding metal-removal applications in production and job-shop environments. It features a 1/2-inch mill diameter, a 0.6250-inch length of cut, and a 0.0100-inch corner radius that blends edge strength with the ability to produce a light radii at the base of a shoulder or pocket. The EXO proprietary coating improves heat resistance and wear life, making it well suited for high-speed, high-feed toolpaths in tough alloys. Variable index geometry reduces chatter and harmonic vibration during both roughing and finishing passes. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers select this tool when surface finish and tool life in difficult materials are the primary concerns.
The VGM5-0122 targets steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials in ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H. Its short-length geometry with a 2.5-inch overall length and straight-cylindrical 1/2-inch shank makes it a straightforward fit in standard end mill toolholders. Typical applications include shoulder milling, slot milling, and profiling in aerospace, die and mold, and general precision machining where edge breakout and corner chipping are chronic problems. The right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute configuration is the standard orientation for conventional CNC machining centers.
Designed for use with standard straight-bore end mill toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC machining centers and manual mills equipped for right-hand rotation tooling in ISO material groups P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolholder torque and runout procedures for solid carbide end mills. Confirm holder bore cleanliness and shank seating before clamping to minimize runout, which is critical with small corner radii. Power down the spindle and engage the machine lock before changing tooling. Refer to OSG published cutting data and your machine tool documentation for appropriate speeds, feeds, and depth-of-cut parameters before committing to production cuts.
