The OSG VGM5-0118 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in demanding machining environments. Built to the VGM5 series specification, it features a 3/8-inch diameter with a 0.03-inch corner radius and five flutes for a balance of chip evacuation and surface finish. The 1-1/2-inch length of cut and 4-inch overall length make it well suited for deep-slot and peripheral milling operations. An EXO coating provides elevated hardness and heat resistance at the cutting edge. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry. This tool is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on CNC milling machines and machining centers.
The VGM5-0118 is designed for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its variable index geometry reduces harmonics and chatter during aggressive cuts, improving tool life and dimensional accuracy. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting orientation are standard for conventional CNC milling setups. The long-length configuration supports applications requiring extended reach into pockets, slots, and contoured surfaces where a standard-length end mill cannot reach the workpiece.
Designed for use with standard toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for CNC milling machines and machining centers running steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials.
Install in a clean, properly sized collet or end mill holder rated for the 3/8-inch shank diameter to maintain runout within acceptable limits. Confirm spindle and toolholder interfaces are free of chips or contamination before securing the tool. Set tool length offset accurately in the machine controller before the first pass. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures when setting cutting parameters for solid carbide tooling.
