The OSG VGM5-0084 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding machining environments. Built on OSG's VGM5 series platform, this single-end tool features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, five helical flutes, and a 40-degree helix angle with variable index spacing. The EXO coating provides enhanced wear resistance and heat dissipation, extending tool life in difficult materials. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals select this end mill for finish milling, profiling, and slotting where surface finish and tool longevity are critical. The micrograin carbide substrate supports sharp, consistent edges throughout the tool's service life.
This end mill is suited for use in CNC machining centers and manual mills where a stub-length, 5/16-inch tooling profile is required. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly into standard collets and end mill holders. Applications include profiling, contouring, and light slotting in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The variable index geometry helps reduce harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts, making it a practical choice for finishing passes on hardened steels, stainless alloys, and similar materials. It is a single-end tool and is not designed to be reground to a double-end configuration.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and direct-fit end mill for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 5/16-inch straight cylindrical shank with standard collet or end mill holder tooling.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with end mill holder torque procedures and runout verification. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the recommended gauge-line depth and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut for the material being machined.
