The OSG VGM5-0053 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. It features a 0.250 inch mill diameter, a 0.015 inch corner radius, and 5 flutes with a variable index geometry that reduces harmonics and chatter during cutting. The tool carries OSG EXO coating for extended wear resistance and thermal protection. With a 0.500 inch length of cut and 2.500 inch overall length, this single-end mill is suited for both roughing and finishing operations. It is installed in a standard straight-cylindrical toolholder and is appropriate for use by machinists and CNC operators working in precision manufacturing environments.
This end mill is engineered for cutting steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. The short-length flute configuration and high helix style support chip evacuation and surface finish quality in ferrous and difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional CNC milling setups. It is part of OSG series VGM5, which targets high-efficiency milling in shops running tough alloys and hardened steels where tool life and edge stability are critical.
Designed for use with standard straight-cylindrical toolholders accepting a 0.250 inch shank diameter. Suitable for CNC milling applications across steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard workpiece materials as indicated by material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or spindle lock is engaged before inserting or removing the end mill from the toolholder. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specifications for set screws or collet nuts — do not overtighten.
