The OSG VGM5-0046 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for demanding metal removal in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, and titanium. It carries a 1/4 inch cutting diameter, a 0.010 inch corner radius, and five flutes arranged in a variable index, high-helix geometry to reduce chatter and improve chip evacuation. The proprietary EXO coating adds thermal resistance and hardness, extending tool life in tough workpiece materials. At 2 inches overall length with a 3/8 inch length of cut, this is a short-length tool intended for rigidity in tight-clearance finishing and semi-finishing operations. Machinists and toolroom operators select this end mill for precision contouring where edge integrity and surface finish matter.
The VGM5-0046 is designed for CNC machining centers and manual mills using standard cylindrical toolholders. Its straight-cylindrical, 1/4 inch shank with an h6 tolerance provides consistent runout in collet and end mill holders. The 40-degree high helix promotes smooth cutting action in both roughing and finishing passes. The centercutting geometry allows plunge entry. Primary applications include profiling, slotting, and ramp entry in ferrous and hard materials across job shop, aerospace, and general manufacturing environments.
Designed for use with standard cylindrical toolholders accepting a 1/4 inch straight shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Part of the OSG VGM5 series.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician following standard toolholder torque and runout procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and clean before tightening the collet or set-screw holder to manufacturer specifications. Confirm spindle direction is set to right-hand rotation before engaging the cut. Do not exceed the tool's rated depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material being machined.
