The OSG VGM5-0004 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in demanding machining applications. Built on OSG's VGM5 Series platform, it features a 1/8 inch (0.1250 inch) cutting diameter, a 0.01 inch corner radius, and 5 flutes with a variable index geometry that reduces harmonic vibration during cuts. The EXO coating provides enhanced wear resistance and heat dissipation, extending tool life in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. At 1-1/2 inches overall length with a 1/4 inch length of cut, this short-length end mill delivers rigidity and minimized deflection in precision slot and profile milling operations. It is center-cutting and suitable for both roughing and finishing passes.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers and milling machines where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. It is well suited for shops working with steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and other hard materials. The short flute length and straight cylindrical 1/8 inch shank make it a practical choice for detail work, shallow pockets, and contour milling on small or intricate parts. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute configuration are standard for conventional toolholder setups.
Designed for use with standard cylindrical toolholders accepting a 1/8 inch straight shank. Suitable for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials as indicated by material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank in a compatible toolholder to the full recommended gauge length before use, and verify runout with a dial indicator prior to cutting. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's guidelines and OSG cutting data recommendations for appropriate feed rates, speeds, and depth of cut for the target workpiece material.
