The OSG VGM3-0028 is a solid carbide, three-flute variable geometry end mill designed for high-performance milling applications. It features both variable helix and variable index geometry, which work together to disrupt harmonic vibration and reduce chatter during cutting operations. The 1/2 inch mill diameter pairs with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, and the tool delivers a 1-1/4 inch length of cut across a 3 inch overall length. A bright (uncoated) finish and a 40 to 43 degree variable helix angle make this tool well suited for demanding material removal in aluminum and other non-ferrous alloys. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry.
This end mill is intended for use in CNC machining centers, knee mills, and similar milling equipment found in job shops, production facilities, and toolrooms. The VGM3-AL series designation indicates it is optimized for aluminum alloy cutting, where surface finish, chip evacuation, and minimizing built-up edge are primary concerns. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is standard for conventional vertical and horizontal milling setups. It is installed and operated by machinists and CNC programmers working in metalworking environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit tool for 1/2 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and hydraulic or shrink-fit tool holders accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the OSG VGM3-AL series.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, powered-down state before changing tooling. Use a calibrated tool holder with the correct bore size and verify runout with a dial indicator after seating the shank. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for recommended speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for the workpiece material.
