The OSG VGM3-0012 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance finishing operations in aluminum and aluminum casting applications. With a 1/4 inch mill diameter and a 0.0200 inch corner radius, this single-end tool delivers consistent edge geometry on contoured and profiled surfaces. The 3-flute configuration with variable helix (40 to 43 degrees) and variable index reduces harmonic vibration during cutting, improving surface finish and tool life. The bright/uncoated finish is suited for non-ferrous materials where coating adhesion is not required. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this tool in standard end mill holders or collet chucks on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
The VGM3-0012 is built for finishing cuts in aluminum and aluminum casting, making it a practical choice for aerospace, automotive, and general precision machining environments. The 5/8 inch length of cut and 2-1/2 inch overall length fit standard tooling setups without requiring extended-reach configurations. The right-hand flute direction and right-hand cutting orientation are compatible with conventional CNC milling conventions. This tool does not have coolant-through capability or a chipbreaker, so it is best applied in dry or flood-coolant external setups on low-to-medium chip-load aluminum finishing passes.

Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the shank in a collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 1/4 inch shank diameter, and verify runout before cutting. Power down and lock out the spindle before tool changes per standard machine safety procedures. Confirm that feed rates and depths of cut are set within the tool manufacturer specifications for the material and operation before initiating a program cycle.
