The OSG VG464-5003 is a solid carbide corner chamfer end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. Built on OSG's VG464 series platform, it features a 1/2 inch cutting diameter, 4 variable-index flutes, and a 45-degree chamfer angle with a 0.02 inch chamfer width. The TiAlN PVD coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. At 6 inches overall length with a 5/8 inch length of cut, this tool suits deep-reach applications where a standard-length end mill would not reach. It is single-end, right-hand cutting, and center-cutting capable, allowing plunge entry. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops, aerospace, and general manufacturing install this tool in milling centers and machining cells.
The VG464-5003 is engineered for use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. Its variable-index flute geometry reduces harmonic chatter during slotting and shouldering operations. Approved applications include shouldering, slotting, ramp-down milling, helical interpolation, drill milling, and plunging and recessing. The 35-degree medium-helix design balances chip evacuation and cutting force across both roughing and finishing passes. The Weldon flat shank provides positive drive and slip resistance in high-torque setups.
Designed for use in CNC milling machines and machining centers that accept 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank toolholders. Primary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials (ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H).
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the Weldon flat shank in a compatible end mill holder or Weldon-style collet chuck, tightening the set screw against the flat to prevent axial pullout. Verify spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut parameters match the workpiece material and operation type before starting the cut. Do not exceed the tool's rated reach or use the tool in an incompatible holder that contacts the fluted section.
