The OSG HP441-7874-BN is a solid carbide ball end mill from the HP441BN Hy-Pro-Carb series, engineered for extended tool life in demanding machining environments. It features a 0.7874-inch (20 mm) cutting diameter, a 1.4961-inch (38 mm) length of cut, and four helical flutes at a 35-degree helix angle. The cutting geometry is right-hand with a single-end configuration and a straight-cylindrical shank. A TiAlN (Titanium Aluminum Nitride) PVD coating adds heat and wear resistance, making this tool well-suited for aggressive material removal and finish passes in one tool.
This end mill is designed for use across a broad range of workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, superalloys, titanium, and hard materials. It handles both roughing and finishing operations, making it a versatile choice for tool-and-die shops, aerospace component machining, and general precision machining centers. The submicron carbide grade substrate supports edge integrity at elevated cutting speeds typical in these applications.
Rated for use on workpiece materials coded P (steel), M (stainless steel), K (cast iron), S (superalloys and titanium), and H (hard materials) per ISO material classification. Suitable for CNC machining centers with standard straight-bore toolholders accepting a 20 mm shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before tool changes. Use a properly sized collet or toolholder with adequate clamping force to minimize runout; excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling. Confirm cutting parameters against the material being machined and the machine spindle rating before operation.
