The OSG HP421-3150 is a solid carbide square end mill from the HP421 series, designed for precision milling in demanding metal-cutting applications. It features a 0.315-inch (8.00 mm) cutting diameter, a 0.8268-inch (21.00 mm) length of cut, and a 35-degree helix angle with a spiral flute geometry. The TiAlN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life in high-speed and dry machining conditions. With two flutes and centercutting capability, this end mill handles plunge cuts, slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling in a single tool. It is suited for use by machinists, toolroom operators, and CNC programmers working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
The HP421-3150 is used in CNC machining centers and manual milling machines for precision contouring, slotting, and full-width cutting operations. The micrograin carbide substrate combined with TiAlN finish makes it well-suited for harder workpiece materials where heat generation is a concern. It operates with right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction, which is standard for the majority of CNC and manual spindle configurations. Typical applications include die and mold work, aerospace component machining, and general precision part production requiring tight tolerances and consistent surface finish.
Designed as a standard shank end mill with an 8.00 mm shank diameter, compatible with ER-style collet chucks, hydraulic toolholders, and shrink-fit holders sized for 8 mm shanks commonly used in CNC machining centers.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in a safe state. Ensure the collet or toolholder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Verify runout with a dial indicator after tool installation, as excessive runout will accelerate wear and compromise surface finish. Follow machine tool manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed, feed rate, and depth-of-cut parameters appropriate to the workpiece material.
