The OSG HP421-1406 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Built from micrograin carbide with a TiAlN coating, it handles elevated cutting temperatures and maintains edge integrity at higher feed rates. The tool measures 0.1406 inches (9/64 inch) in cutting diameter with a 0.5-inch length of cut and a 3/16-inch shank diameter. The 35-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. At 2 inches overall length, it fits standard CNC machining center and manual milling machine setups. Machinists and toolroom operators install this end mill in finish and semi-finish milling operations where tight tolerances and surface quality are required.
This end mill is suited for slot milling, profile milling, and step milling in light to medium cutting conditions. The centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece without a pre-drilled hole, giving operators more flexibility in toolpath programming. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation match conventional spindle rotation on standard vertical and horizontal machining centers. The HP421 series is oriented toward precision work in materials including alloy steels, tool steels, stainless steels, and similar hard metals where a TiAlN finish provides thermal resistance and extended tool life.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 3/16-inch shank diameter collet or end mill holder.
Installation requires a properly sized collet, end mill holder, or set-screw holder accepting a 3/16-inch shank. Ensure the spindle and machine are fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank to the full recommended engagement depth to prevent pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout with a dial indicator after installation, as excessive runout will accelerate wear on a fine-diameter carbide tool.
