The OSG HP421-0469-BN is a miniature solid carbide ball end mill engineered for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. Part of the OSG Hy-Pro-Carb HP421BN series, it features a 0.0469-inch mill diameter, a 0.1406-inch reach length, and a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating applied via PVD process. The submicron carbide grade substrate supports extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. With two right-hand helical flutes at a 35-degree helix angle and a 0.0235-inch nose radius, this single-end mill delivers both roughing and finishing capability in a compact geometry suited for fine-detail work.
This end mill is designed for use on CNC machining centers and milling machines where small-diameter, high-precision cutting is required. It is well suited for die and mold work, aerospace components, and medical part machining involving ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard 1/8-inch collet or end mill holders. No extended reach or coolant-through capability is incorporated, making this a standard-reach tool appropriate for shallow-to-moderate cavity depths.
Fits standard 1/8-inch straight-cylindrical collet holders and end mill holders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), superalloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO material classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Use a calibrated collet or shrink-fit holder sized for 1/8-inch shank diameter and torque the retention mechanism to the holder manufacturer's specification. At 0.0469-inch diameter, this tool is highly susceptible to deflection and breakage from excessive runout — verify holder runout does not exceed the mill diameter tolerance of +0.0000 / -0.0015 inches before production use.
