The OSG HP255-2244 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It features a 5.70 mm diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry, and a WD1 coating that extends tool life in demanding ferrous materials. The right-hand spiral flute geometry with a regular spiral type promotes efficient chip evacuation, while the tapered web and coolant-through capability make it well suited for deep or tight-tolerance hole work. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical tradespeople as well as machining professionals will find this drill ready for production-level cycle times.
The HP255-2244 is designed for blind hole, cross hole, and standard through-hole drilling applications in steel and cast iron workpieces. With a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and a 44.00 mm flute length, it handles moderate-depth bores in a single pass without parabolic geometry. The straight-cylindrical shank at 6.00 mm seats securely in standard drill chucks and collet holders, making it compatible with CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power tools used across metalworking and mechanical trades.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces (Primary Workpiece Material Code: P and K). Suitable for use with CNC machining centers, drill presses, and any tool holder accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank from the OSG HP255 series.
This drill bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or mechanical tradesperson familiar with carbide tooling. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before inserting or removing the bit from the tool holder. Solid carbide is brittle relative to high-speed steel — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper feeds and speeds, or dropping the tool on hard surfaces. Verify coolant flow before starting a coolant-through drilling cycle to prevent premature edge failure.
