The OSG HP255-1811 is a solid carbide jobber length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It features a 4.6 mm diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point, and an EgiAs coating that supports extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The overall length is 74 mm with a 36 mm flute length and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, giving it reach suitable for moderate-depth holes. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6.0 mm and seats securely in standard chucks or collet holders. Coolant-through capability allows internal fluid delivery directly to the cutting zone. This bit is installed and used by machinists and precision metalworking tradespeople in shop and production environments.
The HP255-1811 is built for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It handles blind holes, cross holes, standard through-hole drilling, and self-centering applications. Its 2-flute spiral design with a tapered web and R-thinned point geometry reduces thrust force and improves chip evacuation. The regular spiral type suits a broad range of feed and speed combinations common in production drilling of ferrous workpieces. It is well suited to CNC machining centers and manual drill presses where consistent hole quality and dimensional accuracy are required.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with CNC machining centers and manual drilling setups equipped with standard collet or chuck systems that accept a 6.0 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Suitable for blind hole, cross hole, through-hole drilling, and self-centering operations per the HP255 series application ratings.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of debris before seating the shank. Verify that coolant-through passages in the spindle and holder are clear and aligned if using internal coolant delivery. Follow the machine manufacturer and cutting tool guidelines for appropriate spindle speeds and feed rates when drilling ferrous materials with solid carbide tooling.
