The OSG HP253-2795 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. It measures 0.2795 inches (7.10 mm) in diameter with a 140-degree split point and features a coated finish for improved wear resistance and heat dissipation. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 8.00 mm and fits standard toolholders. With two spiral flutes, an R-thinned web, and coolant-through capability, this bit is built for precision drilling in production and repair environments where consistency and tool life matter. Machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance technicians are the typical end users.
The HP253-2795 is suited for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in both production machining and MRO applications. Its screw machine length profile — shorter than a jobber bit — provides greater rigidity and reduced deflection in tight setups, turret lathes, screw machines, and CNC machining centers. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio gives adequate chip clearance for moderate-depth holes in these materials without sacrificing stiffness. The coolant-through design supports high-feed operations where flood or through-spindle coolant is available.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. The 8.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collet toolholders accepting that shank diameter. Bit size falls within the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch (6.50 to 8.00 mm) size range of the HP253 series.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits, as carbide is brittle and sensitive to side loading. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle completely before loading or removing the bit. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and applicable shop safety guidelines when setting speeds, feeds, and coolant flow for the workpiece material.
