The OSG HP245-5079 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in ferrous materials. Built on OSG's HP245 series platform, it features a 12.90 mm diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point for self-centering entry, and a WD1 coating that extends tool life in demanding cutting environments. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 14.00 mm in diameter, and the overall length is 124.00 mm with a 77.00 mm flute length. With a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and a regular spiral configuration, this drill is suited for production drilling where tool rigidity and hole quality are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators are the typical end users.
This drill is designed for blind hole drilling, cross-hole drilling, and general through-hole drilling operations in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. The R-thinned point reduces thrust force at entry and improves self-centering performance without a separate spotting operation. The tapered web configuration supports chip evacuation and maintains core strength throughout the flute length. It is appropriate for use in CNC machining centers, radial drill presses, and manual knee mills where a rigid setup can be maintained.
Designed for drilling operations in primary workpiece materials coded P and K, covering steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Suitable for blind hole, cross-hole, and self-centering drilling applications across the HP245 series size range of 12.50 mm to 15.00 mm.
Install in a rigid collet chuck or drill chuck matched to the 14.00 mm shank diameter and confirm runout before cycling. Ensure the machine spindle and workpiece are fully secured before engaging the drill. Follow the machine tool manufacturer's recommended speeds and feeds for solid carbide tooling in the specific workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges and WD1 coating for wear before each use and replace when chipping or coating breakdown is observed.
