The OSG HP245-1890 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. It carries a wire size designation of 12, corresponding to a decimal diameter of 0.1890 inches (4.80 mm). The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry reduces thrust force and promotes self-centering at entry. A WD1 coating protects the cutting edge during aggressive feed rates. With an overall length of 82.00 mm and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this bit handles blind holes, cross holes, and through-hole drilling in production or maintenance environments. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
The HP245-1890 is built for demanding metal-cutting applications where carbide rigidity and edge retention outperform high-speed steel. Primary workpiece materials include steel (ISO P), alloy steel, and cast iron (ISO K). Typical applications include blind hole drilling, cross hole drilling, self-centering entry, and general production drilling. The straight-cylindrical shank with a 6.00 mm diameter seats directly into standard collet chucks and drill chucks without adapters in most setups. This drill is well suited to CNC machining centers and manual drill presses alike.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces (ISO material codes P and K). Compatible with any toolholder accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Part of the OSG HP245 series covering the 4.00 mm to 5.00 mm diameter range.
Secure the shank fully in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation, ensuring runout is within acceptable limits for carbide tooling. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing or inspecting the drill bit. Carbide is brittle and can chip if dropped or subjected to interrupted cuts without appropriate feed and speed parameters. Follow the machine tool manufacturer and OSG series guidelines for speeds, feeds, and coolant strategy appropriate to the workpiece material.
