Product Description

The OSG HP245-0394 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in ferrous workpiece materials. Built to the HP245 series specification, it features a 1.00 mm diameter, a 140-degree R-thinned point, and a WD1 coating that improves wear resistance and chip evacuation. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 3.00 mm in diameter and seats securely in standard collet chucks and drill chucks. With a 2-flute right-hand spiral geometry and a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio, this drill maintains consistent hole geometry in blind-hole and cross-hole applications. It is sized for precision work in tight tolerances, with a diameter tolerance of plus 0.002 to plus 0.012 mm.

This drill is intended for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces. The self-centering 140-degree point reduces the need for a center drill in many setups, making it practical for production drilling, cross-hole operations, and blind-hole work. At 38.00 mm overall length with a 9.00 mm flute length, it fits compact CNC machining centers, drill presses, and precision bench setups where a short, rigid cutting tool is required. It does not have coolant-through capability, so external coolant or cutting oil should be applied at the point of cut when drilling deeper features or harder alloys.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction for rigidity and extended tool life in ferrous materials
  • WD1 coating for improved wear resistance and reduced built-up edge
  • 140-degree R-thinned point supports self-centering entry without a pilot drill
  • Right-hand 2-flute spiral geometry with tapered web configuration for efficient chip evacuation
  • Diameter tolerance of plus 0.002 to plus 0.012 mm for close-tolerance hole requirements
  • Suitable for blind-hole, cross-hole, and through-drilling operations in steel and cast iron

Compatibility

Rated for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpieces (ISO material codes P and K). Compatible with any collet chuck or drill chuck accepting a 3.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Designed as part of the OSG HP245 high-performance carbide drill series for small-diameter precision drilling.

Installation Notes

This drill bit is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician into a collet chuck or drill chuck sized for a 3.00 mm shank. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before changing tooling. Because this tool has no coolant-through capability, apply cutting oil or position external coolant nozzles at the cutting zone, particularly when drilling harder alloys or deeper blind holes. Confirm runout at the cutting edge before production use to protect the small-diameter carbide from premature fracture.
