The OSG HP243-5937 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel and cast iron. Built from solid carbide with a proprietary EgiAs multi-layer coating, it delivers extended tool life and heat resistance in demanding production environments. The 140-degree point angle and R-thinned web reduce entry force and improve centering accuracy. At 115.00 mm (4.5276 inches) overall length with a 65.00 mm flute length, this stub-length bit is well suited for rigid setups where minimal overhang matters. It is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on CNC machining centers and drill presses.
This drill bit is engineered for production machining applications where tight tolerances and tool consistency are critical. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in short-hole drilling operations. Primary workpiece materials include steel and cast iron, making it a direct fit for general metalworking, automotive component machining, and fabrication shops running high-volume programs. The straight cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collet holders sized for the 16.00 mm shank diameter.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and multi-spindle machines accepting a straight cylindrical shank with a 16.00 mm shank diameter. Suitable for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces within the 13.50 mm to 17.00 mm drill diameter range of the HP243 series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight shank fully in a properly sized collet or drill chuck and verify runout before cutting. Consult the machine manufacturer and applicable shop safety standards for feed rate and RPM parameters appropriate to the workpiece material and hole depth.
