The OSG HP243-3150 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in demanding production environments. At 0.315 inches (8.00 mm) in diameter, it features a 140-degree drill point angle, a right-hand spiral flute configuration, and an R-thinned, tapered web for improved chip evacuation and reduced thrust at entry. The straight-cylindrical shank provides secure seating in standard drill chucks and collet systems. This bit is suited for machinists and tool-and-die professionals who require tight tolerances and consistent hole quality in ferrous materials.
The HP243-3150 is designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron in screw machine and production drilling applications. Its screw machine (stub) length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and automatic screw machines where deflection control and repeatability are critical. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip clearance in through-hole and blind-hole operations at moderate depths.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. Part of the OSG HP243 series, covering the 0.3000 to 0.3500 inch (8.00 to 9.50 mm) diameter range. Fits standard straight-shank drill chucks and collet systems accepting an 8.00 mm shank.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the chuck or collet is torqued to the toolholder manufacturer specification before operation. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit, so external coolant or cutting fluid should be applied as appropriate for the workpiece material. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as carbide is brittle and susceptible to damage from improper handling or interrupted cuts.
