The OSG HP243-1969 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Built from solid carbide and finished with an EgiAs coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and thermal resistance in demanding production and job-shop environments. The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web reduces thrust and improves centering on entry. At 5.00 mm (0.1969 inches) in diameter with a 6 mm straight-cylindrical shank, it fits standard toolholders used in CNC machining centers and drill presses. Licensed machinists and tooling professionals select this series for short-hole drilling where rigidity and chip evacuation are critical.
The HP243-1969 is suited for screw machine operations, production drilling, and general-purpose short-hole applications in ferrous materials. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and regular spiral flute geometry promote consistent chip flow in steel and cast iron. It is appropriate for use in CNC turning centers, machining centers, and manual drill presses where a compact, stub-length tool is preferred for rigidity. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist coolant is the standard approach for this bit in high-cycle applications.
Designed for drilling steel, alloy steel, and cast iron. Fits standard straight-shank toolholders accepting a 6 mm shank diameter. Part of the OSG HP243 series covering a drill diameter range of 5.00 mm to 6.50 mm.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank fully in the collet or drill chuck to the recommended grip length before operation, and confirm runout with an indicator before beginning a production run. Power down and de-energize the machine spindle before changing or inspecting tooling. Do not use this bit on non-ferrous or abrasive composite materials outside the rated workpiece material list.
