Product Description

The OSG 9599060 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding production and maintenance environments. Built from XPM high-speed steel with a proprietary coating, this bit delivers extended tool life compared to standard HSS drills when working through tough ferrous and nickel-based materials. It features a 130-degree split point with R-thinned web geometry that reduces thrust force and improves hole entry accuracy. At 0.2362 inches (6.00 mm) in diameter with a straight-cylindrical shank, it seats securely in standard drill chucks and quick-change tooling systems. The screw machine length body — shorter than jobber length — adds rigidity and reduces deflection on short-cycle drilling applications.

This bit is suited for production drilling on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and hand-held power tools in shops handling steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy workpieces. The compact screw machine length format makes it a practical choice for tight-clearance fixturing and high-volume repetitive drilling where runout control and point stability matter. It is sold individually and is common in toolrooms, fabrication shops, and maintenance operations where precise hole sizing in hard materials is a routine requirement.

Key Features

  • XPM high-performance coated construction for extended life in ferrous and nickel alloy materials
  • 130-degree drill point angle with R-thinned, tapered web for reduced thrust and cleaner entry
  • Screw machine (stub) length body adds rigidity and minimizes deflection on short-cycle drilling
  • Straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and quick-change collet systems
  • Regular spiral, 2-flute design promotes efficient chip evacuation
  • Diameter tolerance of +0 to -0.018 mm supports consistent, repeatable hole sizing

Compatibility

Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 6.00 mm straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for primary workpiece materials including steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and nickel alloy. Part of the OSG Series 1900 screw machine length drill family covering the 0.2000 to 0.2500 decimal inch diameter range.

Installation Notes

Secure the shank fully in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator when hole tolerance is critical. De-energize and lock out the machine spindle before changing or inspecting the bit. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit — apply cutting fluid externally and ensure adequate chip clearance on deep holes. Screw machine length drills are not designed for use as extensions; do not add extensions or adapters that reduce clamping engagement.
