The OSG 8722470 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit with a 0.1850-inch (4.70 mm) diameter, designed for high-performance drilling in demanding metalworking applications. The 140-degree point angle with R-thinned web geometry promotes accurate entry and reduces thrust load. Three spiral flutes and a regular helix provide efficient chip evacuation, while the EgiAs coating enhances wear resistance and thermal stability. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 6.00 mm in diameter and fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. Overall length is 95.00 mm with a 43.00 mm flute length, giving a 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio suited for moderate-depth holes.
The OSG 8722470 is built for production and toolroom drilling in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel, corresponding to material codes P, M, K, and H. It supports through-coolant delivery for extended tool life in high-speed CNC applications. Typical install scenarios include cross-hole drilling, self-centering operations, and standard through-hole work on machining centers and CNC lathes. It is sized to Wire Gauge 13 and fits within the 0.1500-to-0.2000-inch drill range, making it a practical stocking item for shops running mixed-material programs.
Designed for use in steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and hardened steel workpieces (ISO material codes P, M, K, H). Suitable for CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, and drill presses equipped with collet or drill-chuck toolholding. Part of OSG Series 6610.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized collet or drill chuck before operation, and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Engage through-coolant supply before starting the cut when drilling stainless steel or hardened steel to prevent premature tool failure. Do not exceed the spindle speed and feed rate parameters established by OSG for this series and workpiece material combination.
